That's me. I am a Reality Show Junkie. It happened quickly. It all started when we moved back to the U.S. of America in 2002. I had heard of these shows but had never seen one, and all it took was Trading Spaces. Boom! I was hooked. If you want to use an analogy then Trading Spaces was my gateway drug into the world of Survivor, Amazing Race, Surreal Life, Real World, Big Brother, etc. And let me just say here and get it off my chest in a full confession: when Big Brother is on in the summer I get almost NO SLEEP what with having the live feeds on the computer and watching the after hours on Showtime2.
Some of these shows are so bad you can't believe you waste an hour of your life staring at them, each and every week (Tool Academy I am talking about you!), but there is no denying it. Survivor starts up again this week, back in the Amazon for the second time. Remember the first time? When Jenna and Heidi dropped their laundry for peanut butter and chocolate? When that dirty bad boy Johnny Fairplay LIED about his grandmother dying to get further in the game? Oh my, look at all the Reality t.v. stars that have come and gone since then. Boston Rob and Amber, Rupert, Ozzie, Evel Dick, Nasty Natalie, Crying Amber, the cute hippie guys who won AR, the coal miner couple from AR, Dr. Will & Boogie Chilltown, oh Lord the list just goes on and on. Not only is it hard to believe that I watch this nonsense, but that there are soooooo many people who want to put their lives out there for all the rest of us to poke fun at! What could they be thinking? Not one chance in a gazillion (or Brazilian!) that I would do this.

You know where I will be tonight; front and center checking out the new people on Survivor and wondering which blue shirt ole Jeff Probst is going to wear tonight! This blue one or that blue one . . . . . .
*sigh* I am in the same boat. I swear, if I watch a new reality show 1 time, I am hooked. I try now to avoid starting them at all. I am still mad at my friend Kim for getting me hooked on Big Brother. I avoided the first like 6 seasons, then got hooked when Evil Dick was on it. That show (even w/o After Dark) is a huge time commitment!
ReplyDeleteLet's see...The Bachelor, True Beauty (blech, picked up a new one this year), Sober House, Hell's Kitchen, Top Chef, American Idol, Biggest Loser, America's Next Top Model...others that I'm not sure are/aren't still on....Surreal Life, Celebrity Fit Club, Hogan/Brooke Knows Best, My Fair Brady, Make Me a Supermodel...I know there are others. Such a huge time sucker!
Ain't it the truth! There has never been a better "character" for tv than Evel Dick. I love me some Evel Dick! He is the best. I know, I know, he can be disgusting. That spitting continually for instance, but yep, reality tv was made for him.
ReplyDeleteI love Hell's Kitchen, Sober House, Biggest Loser, and I am telling you, that Tool Academy has just dug a new LOW for reality tv. You just *have* to watch it! It is unbelievable! Where do they find these maroons? Good Lord!
As far as the defunct shows: Surreal Life was just SAD. S. A. D. I can't imagine anything worse for your ego than being asked to be on that tragic piece of crap.
My Fair Brady, of course a spin off from the tragic piece of crap, was pathetic.
If y'all come see us this summer we can become nocturnal vampires staying up all night watching Big Brother after dark and then the live feeds when that goes off. Woo Hoo! I sure hope they get a good cast this year. Last year, poor Mr. Big Ed would go to bed and hear a whining voice and then yell from the bedroom "Are they EVER going to vote off that obnoxious Natalie????" Ha@! Now THAT will make you really want to rotflyao.
