Easter, Peeps, Tra La La!!
OMG!!!! Have you been HERE?? All the Peep stuff you could ever want! I immediately signed up for the Peep fan club and printed up Peep gift tags and looked at the "Recipes". These are "Recipes" only in the sense that you are putting a few ingredients together. But the Peeps! So exciting. I do love the Peeps! My children are big fat wieners who will not eat a Peep. No Peeps, no way, no how. And have you seen the stuffed plushy Peeps? Just a cute little fat Peep to keep for always! How awesome is that?
On to other Easter stuff. A couple years ago we decided to make a big paella for Easter dinner rather than the whole ham or lamb thing with 5 Brazillian side dishes. And we have happily continued that tradition. This year we will do the same. We are hosting a couple of vegetarians (technically they are pescatarians, but whatever. The point is: they eat fish and seafood) so I will be making not one, but TWO big pans of paella. Because I just couldn't do without the smoked pork, ham, chicken, and chorizo in my paella. So I am willing to make two pans. Which means I am going to trot right on down and buy another paella pan! I know, not exactly Compacty, is it? But I love the idea of being able to now make different paellas for the same meal instead of always just one big pan. Now we can try two smaller more regular sized recipes at the same time.
So, I went online and scoped out Seafood Paella recipes. You would not even believe how many Seafood Paella recipes contain chicken, chicken stock, ham, chorizo and various other meat products. When you put meat in something it ceases to be a Seafood dish, people!
Look at what I found:
Saffron-Scented Lobster Paella
Mushroom Paella
Express Paella (made in a pressure cooker in like 15 minutes)
Chili & Scallop Paella
Vegetarian Paella
and finally Simple Paella.
Each of these recipes had something wonderful about it, and that is why I thought "why not get a second paella pan?"
It's almost like my fondue pot. If I had a second one, we would be trying out recipes two at a time. Or at least one good cheese fondue and then a great chocolate one for dessert. I actually do have two fondue pots. One good large one and one tiny one for chocolate. I tend to use the tiny one for little smoky sausages and barbecue sauce also. Everything does double duty over here at Casa Lisa Pie!
Has your family developed some fun, interesting, and different holiday traditions or meals over the years? Please share! And if you have any Peeps, by all means think of me when you scarf them down!

Those all sound scrumptious!
ReplyDeleteI am going to start a whole new tradition this year. See, I have this enormous family, seriously endless amount of relatives and even though I love them all, it's sometimes too much. Mainly, because EVERYTHING and I do mean everything is at my house. The debris after 50-60 people are here takes a whole day to clean up from. For the past month, I've had a constant flow of company which means the whole clan comes over and I am really kind of done for awhile. At the thought of another gathering I started to cringe. My husband had the most magnificent idea. Our traditional sunrise service followed by breakfast. And then, then, we are off the to the beach. With fruit and cheese and wine for the sunset and a late night dinner at whatever beach restaurant calls our name. I am so excited.
I have started my Peep collection back at 0, stockpiling just for you :)
ReplyDeletewe don't really have any Easter dinner traditions. Your brother was supposed to play the role of the Roman soldier in this year's Easter production at church, but somehow it got cancelled.... Probably not a terrible thing because I had visions of children pointing to him and saying, "Mommy, there's the guy that killed Jesus!"
Peeps are cute. Tasty? Not so much.
ReplyDeleteAnd my mom has been known to serve rabbit at Easter. I know, I know. It's just WRONG. But our other holiday traditions involve Mexican food for Thanksgiving and Chinese food for Christmas. We are neither Mexican nor Chinese. And people wonder why I'm like I am...
So, the whole Easter production was cancelled? Or just Chris' part?
ReplyDeleteAnd Joann, we do Mexican food for Christmas, Spanish for Easter, and traditional for Thanksgiving. Right before Christmas I host a big Tamalada and have tons of women over and we make tamales all day. The day before I will start a giant pot of pozole and we eat that for lunch once we have the whole stove loaded down with pots of tamales to steam. Then the margaritas can start being poured. So with the fridge and freezer full of dozens and dozens of tamales for Christmas Eve, it was just a natural progression to add in enchiladas, guacamole, rice, etc. for Christmas Day. Christmas morning I usually do Mexican hot chocolate and stuffed French toast, just something easy.
the whole Easter production, apparently. Some conflict with a wedding and set design. Ah, well... maybe next year.
