You'll Shoot your eye out!
Poor Ralphie, all he wants is the Red Ryder BB Gun and the adults around him keep telling him "You'll shoot your eye out".
Is this the best Christmas movie ever made or what? According to a list of the top Christmas movies, it is.
Well, hold on to your hats, people. Because look what is new in Seattle.
And check this out as well: Ralphie's house is now restored to what it was for the movie and is right across the street from the Christmas Story Museum.
And! If going to Cleveland to see the house and the museum or going to Seattle for this year's production of the musical weren't enough for you, each of these places has stores where you can buy your very own Leg Lamp, or pink bunny pajamas or any of the hats the boys all wore in the movie. It's sooo exciting!
Year before last I bought my kids each their very own small ornament sized leg lamps that come in the crate marked "Fra-geee-lay". And last year my son got me my very own 18" leg lamp that holds a candle. It is very prominently displayed. Love the leg lamp!
It is grocery shopping day and cooking the ingredients for the tamale making. Tamale making will take place tomorrow. It is going to smell great around here in just a few hours.
Enjoy your day, whatever holiday preparations you are taking care of. And thanks for stopping by.

haha.... I totally need to DVR that movie for Chris. He's been wanting the DVR to be full of Christmas movies.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be honest. The Christmas Story house is not in the best neighborhood in Cleveland. It's in what we call our up and coming. It is one of the neighborhoods that is being restored one by one.
ReplyDeleteThat house used to be a boarded up crack house. But it's nice that it has been restored and it was the motivating factor to get the neighborhood revival going.
This was my son's favorite movie which I bought for him before he worked at Blockbuster for four and a half years.
Duffylou, you are in Cleveland? that's awesome!
ReplyDeleteI am really glad that someone cares enough to fix that house up and bring the neighborhood back to its former glory.
I am a little jealous that you have the Ralphie house and Drew Carey. An overabundance of riches, right there!
You could get the Leg Lamp and A Xmas Story Xmas Cards a couple of yrs. back at Rite-Aid too.lol
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to have a leg lamp, but I'm too cheap.lolol
Today was food shopping and Rite-Aid pillaging of course.lol Tonight is Dinner out for Daughter's birthday and more cooking...every night I've made a batch of cookies, last night was pecan pies and tonight I'll do another kind of cookie. Tomorrow is meatballs for xmas dinner and making pumpkin puree so I can make pumpkin pie on the 24th. Xmas morning is salt cured ham biscuits and making Italian 'gravy'(spaghetti sauce)for later that day.
Believe it or not, I had never even heard of The Christmas Story until 2006. I believe I was in school for those 7 years surrounding its heyday. I was instantly hooked. Someone gave a string of lights...all little leg lamps. At a garage sale, a leg lamp about 18" high was only $1. TaDa...have me a leg lamp. When things were becoming tense with the guy I dated who also was the one who rented the movie because I had never seen it, one or the other of us would say, "You'll shoot your eye out." That phrase broke a lot of tension that would have become ill will or a full-blown argument! I especially loved the father's cursing that was covered by the furnace noise.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite movies!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a fabulous holiday!
So this movie was playing at your mom's house yesterday.... not surprising, since young Bob is the star. Chris was going on and on about how he'd licked a cold pole while in school. Not that I was surprised, but I was surprised he was "bragging" on it ;)
ReplyDeleteYour mom said there is a house setup with decorations from the movie a few streets over in her neighborhood..... something to come to Dallas to see, for sure!
